The Quorn Village Planters
Following early trials of portable concrete planters around the central
conservation area of the village, which contributed to Quorn's two wins
in successive years in Leicestershire's Best Kept Village competition,
the Council embarked on more ambitious plans to 'green' the village.
The temporary planters in Quorn Cross and on the forecourt of the Station
Road shops have been replaced by permanent brick beds, new beds have
been built at the Stoop Lane/Soar Road junction (The Princess Diana Memorial)
and the Cradock Drive/Spinney Drive junction and other unsightly areas
in the village are earmarked for greening as funds permit.
Proceeds from
Quorn Open Gardens have been donated to the Council for this purpose.
The success of these schemes is in large measure due to local residents
and businesses 'adopting' planted areas and caring for them on a voluntary
basis.
